A mere two weeks before she stops in Salt Lake as part of her world tour, Katy Perry is on the phone with IN and 49 other publications from around the United States. Due to the fact that she is so popular, Katy Perry is overwhelmed by press begging for interviews. Thus the reason for a teleconference, which means waiting patiently, listening to the chipper voice of Katy Perry answer questions that have already been answered dozens of times before.

After over an hour in the teleconference it was time to say goodbye and sift through a 40-page transcript to find answers to questions that Perry's fans may actually want to know.

Katy Perry made a splash in the music scene nine months ago when she released her debut album "One of the Boys" through Capitol Records. Whether or not she intended to, Perry made a mark on every group ranging from Christians to gay and lesbian organizations with her major hit, "I Kissed A Girl." Suddenly, Perry was more than a Bettie Page-esque pinup guitar player with a couple of good songs. She became an icon for bi-curious teens everywhere and helped increase the sales of cherry ChapStick worldwide.

Everyone wanted to know, did she really kiss a girl? Is she a lesbian? But isn't she dating that guy from that one band? During her teleconference, Perry was asked what female celebrity she wanted to kiss. Though Perry was super polite and kind to each and every reporter, it was quite evident that she was sick of being asked questions about kissing girls.

"Yes, everybody, I have kissed a girl and I have really kind of stopped telling everybody who I thought was hot because it becomes next day's news, like, 'Holy shit, she wants to make out with Scarlett Johansson,' and I'm like, 'Well, not really,' " explains Perry.

It becomes evident that Perry's taste in girls will not be discussed any further. Instead, she focuses on the rapid success of her career since releasing her debut album, "One of the Boys" only nine months ago. Though she was not expecting to be as successful as she is, Perry admits that she always felt as if she was going to make an impact on the music scene.

"I kind of was born a big personality; whether I had the opportunity to become a successful artist or not, I was always going to be hot," declares Perry, who goes on to attribute her bright and colorful clothing to being a product of her big personality.

The 24-year-old moved to Los Angeles after graduating from high school to work on her career while simultaneously learning how to live life as a celebrity. "I was kind of preparing to catch my lucky star and hold on tightly," explains Perry, "Living in Hollywood for eight years; man, that will prepare you whether you like it or not. I had the luxury of watching other people get famous, like some of my friends and seeing some of them fail pretty miserably at it. I'd sit back and take notes and say, 'OK, I'm not going to do that if I ever have the opportunity.' "

Perry's note-taking skills paid off. As she has risen to the top of the pop world, Perry has maintained her cool in the public eye. No matter what gossip columns are saying, she is always smiling and willing to speak truthfully.

Recently nominated for a 2009 Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocalist Performance for "I Kissed A Girl," Perry is excited to be out on the road and show people what she is really made of.

"I'm really excited about this tour, because last year it was very fast," says Perry, "I don't think that people got to see my range. I will be able to play the whole record, from the fast songs, you know that give the middle finger, to the sad songs that are regretful."

In addition to being able to play longer shows, Perry is also excited to delight fans with her stage presence. "I'm definitely bringing a lot of eye candy," laughs Perry.

The Katy Perry eye candy may be reason enough to go see her show at In the Venue on February 10. Well, that, and being a part of what Perry refers to as "a worldwide sing-a-long," by shamelessly belting out the lyrics to "I Kissed A Girl" while Perry rocks out on stage. Whether or not you actually "kissed a girl" doesn't matter, just be sure to have that cherry ChapStick on you should you find the need to indulge in well, kissing a girl.
