Scene in SLC: Jagged Edge Owner Chris Pietz
Posted 2009-11-23 11:51:16 by Amanda Chamberlain
(Francisco Kjolseth ? For In This Week) Chris Pietz, owner of Jagged Edge
(Francisco Kjolseth ? For In This Week) Shear Talent: Chris Pietz is a style soothsayer.

Chris Pietz opened popular Salt Lake salon Jagged Edge in 1998, which now includes a Draper location as well. Pietz cites his parents, both hairstylists, as the sources of inspiration for his career. The Aveda Institute and Vidal Sassoon graduate -- who runs the salon with his wife Kami Day -- keeps the Jagged Edge name current by sponsoring participating in numerous nightlife events. Find out which famous people he's styled in the Q&A below.

You not only own Jagged Edge, but you're also a stylist. Why do you still style when you can obviously afford not to?

I couldn't imagine myself not doing hair. I love what I do and love making people beautiful and feeling sexy.

What are your hobbies/ventures outside of hair?

I love snowboarding and wake surfing.

What are your biggest accomplishments?

Being married to my wife and having our son and owning two successful salons.

What are Jagged Edge's specialties?

We're known not just for coloring and cutting hair, but for creating a look and style for a person.

I've noticed that Jagged Edge often teams up with nightlife entities, like clubs and club events. Why?

Because I like to keep Jagged Edge in the spotlight at all times whether it's day or night.

Why did you choose Draper for your second location?

Draper is one of the fastest growing areas in the Salt Lake Valley.

Who are some big stars you've styled?

Pamela Anderson, Naomi Campbell, Backstreet Boys, Andre Kirilenko and other Jazz players.

Where do you want to take your career, or are you happy as it stands?

I'm happy as it stands right now. I would always love for my salons to grow but right now we're happy with how things are going.

What was the inspiration behind opening Jagged Edge?

I wanted to bring an edgy environment to the Salt Lake Valley, where people ventured outside of the box and where you can see anything from a grandmother's curls to a punk-rock Mohawk.
