Cheap Eats: Bayleaf Cafe
Posted 2009-10-22 12:45:08 by Amy Spencer
As Main Street has been revitalized with eating establishments, there is one restaurant I’ve had my eye on.
Bayleaf Cafe is more than a breakfast, lunch and early dinner spot, it’s a place to hit when the bars close and the belly is screaming for sustenance.
The IN staff recently dropped in to sample the breakfast menu. Although I ordered the most expensive breakfast item, an omelette stuffed with spinach, cremini mushrooms and goat cheese ($7.99), our tab for five meals was less than $35, even with drinks. Fluffy eggs stuffed with fresh veggies and warm goat cheese was enough to lure me back. Fresh cut potatoes on the side and a slice of sourdough toast rounded out the meal for a satisfying and filling breakfast.
The lunch menu is where the owners’ Southern and Asian flair comes out with an unusual mix of comfort food that ranges from spring rolls and fried pickles to congee (an Asian dish with rice porridge stewed with ginger and chicken stock) to catfish or barbecue shrimp and cheese grits.
You Should Go: Bayleaf Cafe
