That day is coming up sooner than you think. You know, the one where advertisers try to pressure you into doing something romantic, like enjoying a fancy dinner? They seem to be pretty successful at it, too. Some area restaurants are already full for the evening of Sat. Feb. 14. So if you'd like to do a little fine dining of your own, you'd best be making those reservations now. The majority of the higher-end eating establishments in the valley seem to be offering Valentine's specials. Here are 14 picks for the weekend of the 14th.

1. Paris Bistro, 1500 E. 1500 South, Salt Lake City, 801-486-5585, www.theparis.net

Explore the cuisine of the city of love with a five-course meal for $69.95 per person. Valentine's Day menu options include goat cheese and basil ravioli, lobster bisque, pink grapefruit and champagne sorbet, lavender honey glazed rotisserie organic chicken, pan-seared filet of prime black angus beef and warm molten chocolate cake with orange blossom gelato.

2. Hunt Mysteries Murder Mystery Dinner Theater, The Manor: Layton's Castle, 930 West Antelope Drive, Layton, 801-569-1482, www.huntmysteries.com.

On Fri. Feb. 13 and Sat. Feb. 14 at 7 p.m., you can enjoy dinner a murder mystery for $40.50 per person. The current mystery is called "The Altos: Lower than Sopranos." Help solve an Italian mafia murder while enjoying an Italian buffet of tossed Italian salad, lasagna, fettucine, spaghetti, rolls and butter, and dessert.

3. Bambara, 202 S. Main Street, Salt Lake City, 801-363-5454, www.bambara-slc.com.

The restaurant adjacent to The Hotel Monaco is offering a special Sweethearts' Menu designed for sharing, which will include fresh oysters on ice, an entrée choice of Maine lobster and wild mushroom gnocchi or roasted rib eye steak, followed by warm hazelnut pudding cake for dessert.

4. The Blue Boar Inn & Restaurant, 1235 Warm Springs Road in Midway, 888-650-1400, www.theblueboarinn.com

The romantic inn is offering a special Valentine's menu for $75 per person. The four-course meal features entrée choices of petite tenderloin and butter-poached lobster tail, scallops and foie gras braised leeks, grilled venison steak and cedar planked salmon. Desserts include fresh strawberries with blood orange and passion fruit curd or chocolate molten cake with caramel and berries. As of press time, they still had a couple of reservations available for the 14th.

5. The Grand America, 555 S. Main Street, Salt Lake City, 801-258-6000, www.grandamerica.com

The Grand America's Valentine's Package includes a $100 dining credit as well as a complimentary upgrade to an executive suite, self parking and spa access. The cost is $259 a night plus tax. Use that $100 dining credit for the dinner buffet ($43 per person) and you can help yourself to prime rib, fish, chicken, oysters on the half shell, shrimp cocktail, potato and salad stations, cheese, fresh fruit and dessert.

6. Tandoor Indian Grill, 729 E. 3300 South, Salt Lake City, 801-486-4542, www.tandoorindiangrill.com

Try the lunch buffet for $9.95 per person. Then take your receipt down the street to Shear Ecstasy Hair Designs at 981 E. 3300 S. and receive 15 percent off the Cupid's Special, which is $85 for his and hers manicures, cuts and styles plus a brow and lip wax for her and a hot shave for him. 7. Lamb's Grill Cafe, 169 S. Main Street, Salt Lake City, 801-364-7166, www.lambsgrill.com

Dinner is $45 per couple and includes a choice of soup or salad, entrée and dessert, with live music by Jimmy Reed from 6 to 9 p.m. Entrée choices include fillet of salmon, barbecued lamb shank, grilled pork chops or beef tenderloin à la stroganoff. Dessert options include chocolate cake, rice pudding or New York cheesecake.

8. Wild Grape New West Bistro, 481 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City, 801-746-5565, www.wildgrapebistro.com

One of the most creative restaurants in town is offering a special $49 four-course Valentine's Day meal. While the special menu was still being developed as of press time, entrée selections will include pan-seared Arctic char, lamb or Poulet Rouge chicken; dessert selections will include chocolate-based and strawberry-based options.

9. Flemings Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, 20 S. 400 West at the Gateway, Salt Lake City, 801-355-3704, www.flemingssteakhouse.com

A Valentine Sharing Menu is available from Fri. Feb. 13 through Sun. Feb. 15. Choose between cognac mushroom glazed porterhouse steak with parmesan cheese mashed potatoes and a choice of salads ($98 for two people) or coarse mustard and fresh herb crusted lamb rack with chunks of Maine lobster, orzo, winter ratatouille, fondant potatoes and a choice of salads ($89 for two people). For dessert, try the dark chocolate frangelico fondue with almond sponge cake and assorted fresh fruit slices ($9.50 for two people). If you do visit during Valentine's Day weekend, you'll also receive a $25 gift card to be used for a return visit before March 31.

Valentine's specials include wild mushroom minestrone ($5.99); flatbread special with crab and artichoke dip ($12.99); and grilled 8-ounce beef tenderloin ($28.99).

11. Lugano Restaurant, 3364 S. 2300 East, Salt Lake City, 801-412-9994, www.luganorestaurant.com

The Northern Italian restaurant is offering a Valentine's special menu on Fri. Feb. 13 and Sat. Feb. 14. A five-course meal will be $55 per person.

12. The Tin Angel, 365 W. 400 South, Salt Lake City, 801-328-4155, www.thetinangel.com

The restaurant that specializes in local ingredients will feature two $30 specials for Valentine's Day. Choose from either Spanish style buffalo shank with sweet potato bread pudding and braised winter vegetables; or herb-seared sea scallops with artichoke basil risotto cakes and fennel pollen beurre blanc and baby vegetables. The Tin Angel only had a few seats left for the 14th as of press time, so get those reservations in.

13. Log Haven, 6451 E. Mill Creek Canyon Road, Salt Lake City, 801-272-8255, www.log-haven.com

The restaurant is offering the following special holiday menu items on Feb. 13 and 14: sweet potato soup with Virginia ham and crisp buttermilk onions ($8.50); curried prawns with tropical fruit salad, toasted macadamias and minted lime vinaigrette ($13); grilled rack of lamb with Jerusalem sunchoke puree, roasted olives and warm truffle mignonette ($40); and armano chocolate with hazelnut ganache tart, poached forelles, pears and port syrup ($10). As of press time, they had no more reservations available for the 14th, but they did have a waiting list, and they were still taking reservations for the 13th.

14. Fresco Italian Café, 1513 S. 1500 East, Salt Lake City, 801-486-1300, www.frescoitaliancafe.com

As of press time, no more reservations were available for Sat. Feb. 14, but the restaurant is also taking reservations for their special Valentine's menu on Fri. Feb. 13 and Sun. Feb. 15 beginning at 5 p.m. Entrées include herb gnocchi, sweet prawn ravioli, rosemary-brined chicken, butter-poached monk fish and roasted beef tenderloin.
