Rob Zombie and Skinny Puppy deliver some post-October evil that guarantee well worth the price of the ticket. Below are videos to give you a taste of what you'll get.Rob ZombieRob Zombie hasn’t let his gritty horror-metal music wane since he started his filmmaking career. This February, I interviewed Scotty Lee — a comedian who's name was becoming increasingly more recognizable in the local comedy scene. I received a fair amount of negative feedback from three other local comedians (all of whom supersede Lee in popularity), who dismissed him as a liar (''His comment about Brad Pitt being a fan is a sack of shit,'' one bluntly told me). The article I wrote also received some of the most stinging comments from anonymous posters I've ever... Read More

It's hard to figure where The Mary Onettes fit in. They aren't traditional synthpop and they don't exactly fit into either the shoegazing or dream pop genres. This isn't a bad thing. I prefer it this way. It just makes ''Lost'' rather difficult to accurately write about. So imagine if 4AD-era Clan of Xymox were to abandon the darkness for a brighter sound and a more straightforward vocal (vocalist Philip Ekstrom has drawn comparisons to a-ha's Morten Harket). I suppose this lum... Read More

After toning things down a bit on their last record, identical twins Tegan and Sara Quin ratchet up the intensity on their sixth album, ''Sainthood.'' The tone is established immediately, with the edgy synths and pointed lyrics of the first track, ''Arrow.'' The album continues in this vein, nicely pushing and pulling between weighty verses and catchy choruses. The best moments come when the Quin girls up the tempo. ''Hell'' finds the twins busting out their rock guitars and ''Nort... Read More

Salt Lake City's Steady Machete throws a curve ball on the opening track of their debut full-length. ''Control is Beneath Us'' wants to push the band into dance rock territory, when their real home is the spacey, slightly dark and moody, rock arena. The second track, ''Bonnie Parker,'' is more representative of the record as whole, with its fuzzed-out bass riff and vocals floating around in the ether. The album's title track and centerpiece, ''Riots,'' also proves the band isn't a... Read More

With Rick Rubin both signing and producing The Avett Brothers, it would seem that the North Carolina folk and bluegrass trio would be poised to become the next crossover sensation with their new disc. Instead, The Avett Brothers just use their major label dollars to add subtle flourishes to their subdued sound. The title track is not only the album's best moment, but easily one of the best songs of the year. Brothers Scott and Seth trade vocals--Scott's low and gruff, Seth's h... Read More

What does one say about one of the most lauded concert films of all time that hasn't already been said? How about this: I wasn't a fan of the Talking Heads even when they were R.E.M. before R.E.M. became pop darlings in the early '90s. I just didn't get the Talking Heads, but I always felt like I should. I hadn't seen ''Stop Making Sense'' until it was released on DVD. After years of hearing about how wonderful the film was, I figured I could at least sit down and see what the ... Read More

Strung Out is the king of blistering California punk rock. In 1996, they released an album that was so fast (''Suburban Teenage Wasteland Blues'') fans thought it must have been a result of studio trickery. It was the real deal. With 2003's ''Live in a Dive,'' the band put the rumors to rest by not only keeping up with the record's pace, but playing the songs even faster. The Netherlands' Tijs Verwest, aka Tiesto, has long been heralded as one of the world's best trance DJs. Tiesto was wise to realize that the um-chee-um-chee-um-chee trance beats couldn't stay interesting forever.
